The Abona denomination of origin includes about 2,000 hectares, spread across a stretch of land parallel to the coast, with an altitude that ranges from 200 to 1,600 meters above sea level, which makes it one of the highest-set vineyards in Europe. The vineyards are spread between the municipalities of Adeje, Arona, Vilaflor, San Miguel, Granadilla, Arico and Fasnia.

The best Abona DO cultivars are over 600 meters high, with plants cultivated in dark volcanic soil, which is fertile and permeable. Its intermediate area is occupied by volcanic sands, which give the wines a very particular personality, with notes of ash and rubber.

The main strains of the Abona DO are Listán Blanca and Listán Red, which it shares with the new Valle de Güímar denomination of origin.
