notarial documents of the nineteenth century attest to the presence of Rocca in the municipality of Barbaresco from 1834, year in which was born our grandfather Francesco (1834-1894). In 1864 he made draft mortgage dowry in favor of his future wife, Luigia Cheinasso. In that document, Francis is called "born farmer and Barbaresco inhabitant", owner, with his brother Joseph, "houses, sites, vineyards and gorreti", all located in the municipal area. From subsequent documents and testimonies, the activities of our family is that of a company multi-purpose farm where, next to the fields for forage and livestock breeding, wine production plays an important role in the family budget.
We have to arrive in the late 50s because our history is inextricably bind to that of the most famous cru of these hills: the Rabajà. Thanks to the intuition and courage of Francesco Rocca (1907 - 1978), grandson of the first Francis, in 1958 the company moves from Barbaresco city center Rabajà in the area at the southern entrance of the village. The plots of Rabajà were always known for producing grapes of extraordinary quality, sold at a much higher price than the other Nebbiolo Barbaresco. The proof is the fact that the winery where, after the war, conferivamo grapes, already since 1967 imbottigliava labels indicating "vineyards in Rabajà Southwest."
Awareness enoic to own a unique heritage of its kind and will to enhance the agricultural baggage of centuries-old Rocca, pushes his son Francesco, Bruno, born in 1951, to change course and to specialize in viticulture. The year 1978 marks the first harvest the fruits of which will be bottled for the first time, under the family name. These were years of ferment and experimentation, passions and challenges to overcome. Years in which the wines of the Langhe - and especially Barbaresco - know an incredible international exposure, looking for a way to raise their quality and character. In this framework of traditional renewal and rediscovery, Bruno Rocca modernizes and renews the family business. The goal is to raise the quality of wines produced and enhance the extraordinary cru "family", the Rabajà. This means a radical rethinking of the management of the vineyard and cellar work, not intended to maximize quantity, but designed so that everything contributes to the production of wines with distinctive, unique because the singular expression of a territory by non-reproducible features.
The 90 collect the fruit and the rewards of hard work. Our company has established itself as production of wines recognized internationally. Thanks to the acquisition of new vineyards, in addition to Barbaresco begins the production of the great wines of Piedmont: Langhe Nebbiolo d'Alba and Barbera d'Asti, Dolcetto and Chardonnay. Today, alongside Bruno Rocca, in the company they work their children Luisa and Francesco. To them falls the task of renewing the faithfulness of our history to the territory of origin, respect for the land, the value of its vineyards and the production of fruit wine of the incredible balance between the rhythm of nature and man's work.

I opened the bottle for my best friend.
The Bruno Rocca wine is of a red ruby colour, having reddish brown edges. Aromas of oak. A very powerful red.
To this red would have paired better with a softer meat.

Bruno Rocca Barbaresco Rabajà 2014

Ruby-garnet in colour with an intensely perfumed nose and notes of flowers, redcurrant, blackberry and a smoky edge. On the palate there is great fruit concentration and the characteristic tannins of Nebbiolo have been softened by the warm autumn. Long and very elegant on the finish.

The Bruno Rocca Rabajà was recommended at Uvinum, so I bought it.
Violet red colour of a young wine. This Bruno Rocca offers predominating notes of berries and red fruits. It tasted good to me.

I discovered this wine with my best friend.
Good colour. Aromas of strawberry, raspberry and some berries. It tasted good to me.
I had it with duck confit and I think that they pair quite well.
