Mikkeller

Math and physics teacher in denmark during by day, beer-enthusiast by night. That was Mikkel Borg Bjergso before he had the idea of brewing beer himself. He didn't have to wait long for success. Inspired by the American craft beer hype he and his friend, Kristian Keller, studied several books on that topic and soon developped their own recipes. In 2005, his brother opened a beer shop. That was Mikkel's possibility to sell and distribute his own brewings. The big break-through followed soon after. Today Mikkel exports his beer to 40 countries. But as he lacks of an own brewery, he approaches the famous Proef Brouwerij in Belgium for brewing his recipes.

The way coffee is obtained may seem a bit special but it develops its taste and aroma. Indeed, the luwak, a small family pet civets, selects and eats the best coffee beans, which are then recovered after digestion of the animal. When this verse Imperial Stout in the glass, we see a black liquid as a moonless night topped by a large foam and endless brown. The aroma is sweet with the smell of coffee, hops and bitter chocolate, combined with citrus notes. The flavor is marked by strong notes of roasted malt, great coffee taste, alcohol, hops, citrus and bitter dark chocolate. Everything is great in this beer, leading to a very hoppy and bitter citrus finish, but also with strong notes of underlying roasted malt and coffee.
