The Brand

Math and physics teacher in denmark during by day, beer-enthusiast by night. That was Mikkel Borg Bjergso before he had the idea of brewing beer himself. He didn't have to wait long for success. Inspired by the American craft beer hype he and his friend, Kristian Keller, studied several books on that topic and soon developped their own recipes. In 2005, his brother opened a beer shop. That was Mikkel's possibility to sell and distribute his own brewings. The big break-through followed soon after. Today Mikkel exports his beer to 40 countries. But as he lacks of an own brewery, he approaches the famous Proef Brouwerij in Belgium for brewing his recipes.

Brewed by Mikkeller, this beer falls into the category Barley Wine. This type of high fermentation beer, highly prized by connoisseurs, is characterized by a high degree of alcohol (12% alcohol here) and a powerful aromatic profile. It was initially produced in the brewery De Proef. Her dress is dark enough dominance, with pretty red highlights. By approaching the nose, it shows mingled scents of vanilla, malt and bananas. The taste is very sweet to him, there are enough malt discreetly with alcohol and caramel notes. A slight bitterness comes in late to sublimate this exceptional Danish beer. Like a fine wine, the beer can be keep in the cellar for many years, in order to better develop its various flavors. So if this beer did you like, do not hesitate for a second: Take a look at the Mikkeller Boogoop, another Barley Wine Brewery!
