Petals of Bierzo 2017 is, for all of theabove, an excellent way to get to know Bierzo, an area benefitting from the climatic characteristics of both Castile and Galicia, and of course the wines of Descendants of J. Palacios, inspired by the winery's principles -spiritual tradition; respect for the land and nature; and transparency in the expression of the vineyard and culture-, they offer us moments of great beauty and pleasure.

The presentation of Petals of Bierzo 2017, as an aside, follows the same design of the 2016 vintage - created by Xano Armenter -, with a slight color variation that transmits the wine's characteristic jovial and cheerful personality to the bottle.

2017 Pétalos del Bierzo (Mencía)

  • Nose: fruity, with deep aromas of cherry, berries and flowers.
  • Mouth: fresh, soft, pleasant, tasty, persistent.


VINEYARD: Descendientes de J. Palacios. Vineyard age from 40 years to 90 years. Located in 5 municipalities of Corullón, Valtuille, Villadecanes, Parandones and Villafranca del Bierzo. The terrain is characterized by very steep slopes and hills of between 450 and 1000 meters.

GRAPES: Mencía

AGING: aging in French oak barrels.

ELABORATION: very early and selective harvest depending on municipalities and plots. Alcoholic fermentation in wooden vats and stainless steel tanks. Maceration for 23 days. Malolactic fermentation for 3 months.

Pétalos del Bierzo 2017

It is one of the best wines in Spain and also has a very attractive price. For me it is one of the wines of reference, that kind of wine that I always have in mind when I have guests at home or when I'm a guest in someone's home. How lucky to have a red wine with the quality seal Palacios at such a reasonable price! It is an indispensable wine in all wineries.

  • View: cherry red, violet and dark trim.
  • Nose: high intensity, pinks, violets, red berries and smoky notes.
  • Mouth: mineral, velvety, sweet, medium and persistent body.


VINEYARD: grapes from five municipalities: Corullón, Valtuille, Villadecanes, Parandones and Villafranca of the Bierzo. Located on steep hill slopes and between 450 and 1,000 meters. The vines are planted in glass and traditionally work, including horses. Corullón floors are the paleozoico and slates have varying orientations and presence of quartzite, sandstone and clay. In other municipalities are de-Ferrous clay, quartzite and abundant type boulder.

GRAPES: Mencia and others.

AGING: aged in French oak barrels. It is clarified and filtered before bottling.

PREPARATION: destemming and partial crushing, alcoholic fermentation in wooden vats and stainless steel tanks open. Macerate for 23 days. malolactic fermentation for 3 months in wooden vats and stainless steel tanks closed.

WINE PAIRING: fillet of beef, lamb, sausage, ham, beef carpaccio and blue cheeses.

Pétalos del Bierzo 2017 wine is a red wine made in O. D. Bierzo by J. Palacios Descendants cellar mainly Mencía, supplemented with a small proportion of white grapes as Alicante Bouschet. This wine is the result of a perfect assembly as half of the grapes are from vineyards selected in the municipality of Corullón, and half of the grapes are selected in several vineyards in the heads of the poorest hills of different municipalities: Valtuille, Villadecanes, paradones and Villafranca of the Bierzo.

Pétalos del Bierzo 2014 is a wine of Mencia (100% Bierzo) with deep aromas that makes no effort to hide their fruitiness, reinforced with flowers (hence the petals) and herbal touches.
