You will like to know that…

Southern Comfort, known as SoCo by its friends, is an American whiskey-based liqueur. This classic spirit was first invented in 1874 by M. W. Heron in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. This city has been the birthplace of so many fine inventions, Southern Comfort among them. The city's access to fruit and spices from all over the world was essential in crafting the original recipe for this historic spirit.

Invented as a way to camouflage the unpleasant taste that some whiskeys of the time could have, Southern Comfort takes a base of whiskey and adds a secret blend of fruit and spices. The result is a smooth, easy-to-drink spirit with the soul of a whiskey. While the recipe for Southern Comfort remains a secret, one historian says that the original recipe included vanilla, lemon, cinnamon, cloves, cherries, oranges and honey.

How is it made is not as important as how it tastes, though. Many celebrities have loved this product over the years including none other than Janis Joplin, who often had a bottle on the stage with her while performing. Try SoCo on the rocks, neat, or mixed. The array of spices and fruit in the classic liqueur means that it will marry well with all kinds of flavours.

Description of Southern Comfort

Southern Comfort

TASTING NOTES:

  • Color: Southern Comfort features a dark amber color.
  • Smell: The nose can perceive a familiar scent: the punch. The notes are predominantly lime citrus notes and fruity notes reminiscent of fruits such as apricot or peach with spicy notes that carry cola candies.
  • Taste: Although these notes are eminently sweet, not cloying in the mouth because the point is low and sweetness by the contrast of alcohol and citrus notes dominate. The finish is medium and leaves a pleasant memory cola candy.

Southern Comfort

- A legendary night with friends in New Orleans.
- The excitement and vibrancy of New Orleans is what attracted bartender Martin Wilkes Heron. In 1874, he decided that the home of Mardi Gras deserved a smoother alternative to the harsh whiskies from Kentucky and Tennessee.
- By adding a secret blend of fruits and spices, he struck upon the perfect combination - Southern Comfort. Later, in 1900, Southern Comfort picked up a Gold Medal for quality and taste at the Paris World Exposition. Another followed four years later at the St Louis World Fair. Today, New Orleans wouldn't be the same without Southern Comfort. Best enjoyed with lime and lemonade, its distinctive taste is shared by friends on great nights. No wonder Southern Comfort's the drink at the heart of Mardi Gras - the best party in the world.
