When Phya Bhirom Bhakdi, or "Boon Rawd" Sreshthaputra was 57 years old, he had enough of imported beer. He was of the opinion, that Thailand was very well capable of brewing its own beer of equal quality. Finally, on the 4th of August in 1933, the government granted Boon Rawd an official license.
The first Singha beer was launched in 1934 and soon conquered the national market. 40% of the beer consumed in Thailand was suddenly brewed in the same country. And in 1941, the Boon Rawd Brewery owned 60% of the market.
After the founder's death in 1950, the brewing company continued to grow and expand. Until in 1970, Singha Beer accomplished international recognition. The Boon Rawd Brewery's growth was unstoppable. And in June 1998, the Singha beer's little brother, Leo, was launched, giving the starting signal to develop a broader range of beers for different tastes.
And in 2013, when the Boon Rawd Brewery celebrated its 80th anniversary, the air of success still blew through the company and is still blowing to open up new horizons.
