A new Grand Cru in the Medoc?
Of course, that's impossible. 1855's classification was definitive. Nevertheless, one grand cru was apparently sleeping the sleep of Sleeping Beauty : Chateau FERRIERE.
Third Grand Cru Classé, this wine has been recognised as a high quality product well worthy of its classification.
Its name comes from a family of Bordeaux doctors, one of whose members was mayor of the town. Unfortunately he was in office during the French Revolution's Reign of Terror, and his stay in prison was a lot longer than it was at the Town Hall!
This small 8 hectare vineyard was for a long time in the shade of the great names of Margaux. It was successively considered as the second wine of Prieuré Lichine and Lascombes.
The owners of Chasse-Spleen, who were sad to see this exceptional land underestimated, bought the property in 1988. They cancelled the farming contract with Lascombes and set to producing the wine themselves. The potential was there, and the new team's investment and competence did the rest.
