Chateau Latour wrote history, The building states its first mentioning in a document dating back to 1331, in which the lord, Gaucelme de Castillon, gives permission to build a fortress tower to defend the region during the Hundred Years War. Three hundred years later, the estate fell into the hands of Alexandre de Segur, which was awarded by King Louis XV with the title "Prince of wine". The Chateau Latour went through many hands and families, in the 20th century the estate belonged to the British until it finally returned to French ownership. The Segur family finally received shares of 7%.
Château Latour is located in the Haut-Médoc Pauillac. The vineyard has 90 hectares in production with 47 hectares around the castle, called "l'Enclos", are reserved to the production of Grand Vin. Some vines are over 100 years.
The planting of the area is that which is found in large areas of the Medoc, with a strong predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon (80%). Merlot occupies 15% of the surface. As for the Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, they represent only 5% of the plantings.
