As far back as 1513, Mayne de Soutard appears in records as an estate surrounding a farm and mill.
In 1620 Élie Gréau, a lawer and magistrate, owned of the estate. Also called bourdieu de Soutard, it then stretched as far as Larmande.
In the mid 19th century, the Soutard estate consisted of the maison de maître (main house), houses for the régisseur (estate manager) and bordier (farmer), the cellar, the stables, and various outbuildings. There was also an area of woodland, a courtyard, a garden and a terrace.
La Mondiale, which already owned the neighbouring Château Larmande (Grand Cru Classé) and Château Grand Faurie La Rose (Grand Cru), then purchased Soutard with the intention of running this magnificent estate with the greatest possible respect for its unique history and spirit.
Wine specialist Claire Thomas-Chenard, who comes from a family of chemical engineers and wine specialists stretching back four generations, is now the talented manager of this 27-hectare estate, the layout of whose vineyards (covering a single area of 22 hectares) has remained unchanged for over a century.
