The Ancient Cellars of the Marquises of Barolo are located in Barolo, in the building overlooking the Castello dei Marchesi Falletti. Right here, more than 200 years ago, a beautiful story began.
The story of a winery, protected by rolling hills in the heart of the Langhe, where a wine was born that, in the fashion of the French tradition, was called Barolo in honor of the place of birth. No one could then imagine that, one day, he would become king: the King of wines, the wine of the Kings.
The story begins, more precisely, in 1807 when the Marquis of Barolo, Carlo Tancredi Falletti, marries in Paris a French noblewoman, Juliette Colbert of Maulévrier, great-grandson of the famous minister of finance of the Sun King. It was Juliette to guess the great potentiality of the wine produced in Barolo that, only after a complete fermentation and a prolonged refinement in wood, could reveal all the typical qualities of the soil and the vine: the Nebbiolo, powerful and austere, able to last over time and to express all the characteristics of this extraordinary terroir.
In 1864, with the death of Juliette, the prestigious Falletti dynasty died out:to perpetuate its memory and its charitable activity, the Opera Pia Barolo was created in the beautiful Palazzo Barolo, in Turin, by the will of the Marchesa
