Pol Roger

Distinction and elegance. Pol Roger is the "gentlemen's" Champagne, as Jean-Paul Kauffman wrote in "Voyage en Champagne". Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2009

The Champagne has always been characterized by unstable weather. For this reason since 1849 Pol Roger has observed the tradition of not producing Champagne Vintage when weather conditions do not permit an exceptional ripening of the grapes; This tradition is still maintained. The satisfactory gradation potential, the total low acidity, the pH rather high, the content of tartaric acid content of the must, which was the lowest since 1970, characterize the vintage grapes 2004. The Brut Vintage 2004 is produced by a blend of pinot noir and Chardonnay from 20 Grand and premier Cru from the mountains of Reims and Cȏte Des Blancs. Produced only in limited quantities is aged for eight years before being sold. The golden yellow color, fine perlage. The nose is fresh clean and mature: narcissus and iris, dried yellow fruit and honey. This complexity in the nose, is fully confirmed the palate and results in a wine with round and full-bodied texture. Warms in the glass the aromas of fruits grow in a generous manner.

Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2009

Known for being the favorite Champagne Pol Roger Winston Churchill remains an iconic name of tradition that makes an art of assemblage of grape varieties and terroirs. The Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims gives each cuvée of this house the necessary doses of full elegance and aromatic richness.

Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2009

Excellent purity and refinement on the nose, very focused Autolytic complexity, toasted bread and pastry, but also red fruits and a hint of spice The palate shows excellent depth of fruit but also a very firm, taut acidity to complement the richness Long and persistent finish, very well integrated dosage and built for the long-haul More refined than the 2002 (and a very different style) was at this stage of its development Drink 2018 - 2040

Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2009

- Delicate pale lemon. The nose is opulent in its youth displaying ripe stone fruits on the nose, candied lemon peel and grapefruit.
- Creamy autolytic mouthfeel with a refreshing backbone of acidity. The wine has a persistence of length and character.
- The wine is more accessible in its youth compared to Brut Vintage 2008, but will last for the next decade and onwards.

- Intense gold with persistent fine mousse. The nose opens with floral rose notes and warms to toasted brioche. The mouth is full and fresh with spicy floral notes (wallflower or nasturtium), underpinned with candied yellow fruit.
- The finish is long and dry. This is a classy mid-term vintage from Pol Roger that will continue to improve for at least 5 years in bottle and in magnum for 10-12 years.
- Typically this has the power to match fine dining and would work well with lobster or other crustaceans as well as rich or pungent or spicy dishes.
- Vintage champagne is by definition the wine of a single year and it must rely on the success of that harvest alone. Vintage champagne is therefore produced only when all the necessary components of climate, grape quality and ripeness at harvest come together for the winemaker to produce a wine of optimum intensity, structure and balance.

The final reminded me of bakery flavours. It is the softest wine of Champagne.
Better decant this Pol Roger Brut Vintage from 2006, it tastes better.

Pol Roger Brut 2006
The Pol Roger Brut was recommended at Uvinum, so I bought it.
It had a deep colour at first sight. Light aromas of yeast and bakery. I enjoyed it quite long after tha last sip.

Fantastic colour. Aromas of yeast. It would have been better if it had been cooler than it was. Our fault.
Unfortunately, it did not match with food, although the wine was really ok.
The best wine of  the family Pol Roger.
