The Winery
Alves de Sousa
The production of wines is a familiar tradition for Domingos Alves de Sousa: his father (Edmundo Alves de Sousa) and his grandfather (Domingos Alves de Sousa) had already been winemakers in the Douro. But Domingos Alves de Sousa at first embraced another career. Having obtained a degree in Civil Engineering, he did not relinquish the double appeal (of land and blood), and abandoned his activity in 1987 to devote himself exclusively to exploring the estates that he had inherited and to others he later acquired, in which he has been carrying out a modeling work of reparcelling and restructuring of the vineyards. The evolution of its wine business has interesting aspects, almost paradigmatic and deserves a little history.
