Quinta do Vale do Meão is the flagship of one of Portugal's best wineries. The wine is a blend of the traditional Portuguese grape Touriga Nacional 58%, 35% Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca 5% and 2% Tinta Roriz which (used 80% new, overife for the 2nd time) for 18 months in French barriques. The grapes come from vines of 45-50 years old. This is a wine which is great balance and very elegant. Nothing is too much or too overbearing and the Wine Advocate speaks also about "wow moment" at the Quinta do Vale do Meão. This wine is simply irresistible. The wine has a complex nose with many aromatic nuances without overlapping with another odor. Red fruit, leather, espresso, hint of tobacco and spices we smell in the nose. The wine is medium to full bodied with an excellent (read: not dominant) integration of wood. Now it all compare to this wine is a bit lame but it's best to compare it with a good, elegant Burgundian who freshness and elegance can let go together. The Meao 2011 was in the Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2014 of the world's finest wines in the top 3!
