The red wine Rabelo 2015 takes its name from the famous Rabelo boats that float on the river Duero. These boats have existed since the 10th century and were specially developed for the river Duero and the transport of wine barrels. The boats drove from the upper Duero wine region downstream to the production sites of Porto or Vila Nova de Gaia, where the delicious sweet port wines are produced.

Nowadays these boats have lost their former purpose and only serve to show tourists the beautiful Duero Valley. If you spend some days in Porto, you should not miss this experience.

2015 Rabelo (Touriga Francesa, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz)

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: 2015 Rabelo has an intense ruby red colour.
  • Nose: Rich bouquet, full of fruity aromas of wild berries, plum, and blackcurrant.
  • Mouth: Harmonious and well balanced on the palate, Juicy black fruits explode on the mouth, with medium tannins and a dry character. The finish is smooth, luscious, and silky, with a fruity character.

APPELLATION: Douro

VINEYARD: Compañía de Vinos del Atlántico. Founded in 2002, this company is an association of small vine growers from Spain and Portugal. 2015 Rabelo in particular is from the Douro region in Portugal, with vines located at 200-400 meters above sea level. The wines are clean and fresh, with great balance and structure.

GRAPES: 55% Tinta Roriz, 25% Touriga Franca, and 20% Touriga Nacional.

AGING: Matured in a combination of stainless steel vats and French oak barrels for a period of ten months.

PREPARATION: The grapes are harvested and carefully selected for the finest fruits. The selected grapes are completely destemmed and subjected to a slight maceration process prior to the fermentation. The must is fermented in stainless steel vats with the skins at a controlled temperature. Once fermented, the wine is separated into halves, one to be aged in stainless steel vats and the other in French oak barrels, after which it is finally blended, bottled, and commercialized.

PAIRING: This fantastic red is ideal for strong courses, such as beef, pasta, lamb, deer, venison, and some cheeses.
