When talking about wines from Extremadura, mention must be made of pitarra wines. These are old wines, almost raw, in which their naturalness and freshness stand out, and which are the favorites of natural wine lovers. These wines can coexist perfectly with wines of the land and with the most important denomination of origin wines.

Extremadura has seven denominations of origin, the Ribera del Guadiana, Tierra de Barros, Cañamero, Matanegra, Montánchez, Ribera Alta del Guadiana and Ribera Baja del Guadiana. They all encompass a large number of counties, usually grouped around a major commercial center.

Extremadura wines are made from white varieties of Cayetana, Alarije, Borba, Pedro Ximenez and Pardina, and from red varieties, such as Grenache or Cencibel. The white wines of Extremadura have a high alcohol content and an intense color, the red wines have a lot of body and power, with an aptitude for oak aging.
