The history of the Monkey 47 dates back to 1945, when the British Montgomery Collins, member of the Royal Air Force, was sent after the 2. World War to Berlin and was deployed there in the administration of the British sector. Commander Collins was deeply moved by the extent of the destruction of the city and decided to help rebuild the Berlin Zoo. There he took over the sponsorship for a Javanese monkey named Max.

In 1951, the Gin lover Collins settled in the Black Forest, where he dedicated himself, among other things, to the production of the English national drink, and where he used hemic ingredients such as juniper, purest spring water, and a variety of herbs and plants for his distillate.

Long after the death of Montgomery Collins, a box with a bottle marked "Max the Monkey - Schwarzwald Dry Gin" and instructions on how to make the Gins was found during renovation work at a country inn.

Alexander Stein and Christoph Keller from Black Forest Distillers decided to make Montgomery Collins' Schwarzwald Dry Gin a success. The result was a Gin of the highest quality with floral notes, sparkling citrus freshness, clear juniper notes and a subtle touch of cranberry. In homage to the master distiller, his monkey Max and the 47 plants used in the recipe, the product was given the name Monkey 47.

Of the 47 hand-picked, vegetable ingredients, a good third 1/3 come directly from the Black Forest. Among other things, this German Gin contains native spruce shoots, cranberries, elderflower, sloe and blackberry leaves.

The bottle design of the Monkey 47 is a masterpiece. The idea was inspired by an old pharmacist's bottle, which Alexander Stein discovered during a walk with his son. The *brown glass * of the bottle protects the precious contents from harmful UV light rays.
