Liqueurs are alcoholic drinks that are bottled with added sugar and have added flavours that are usually derived from herbs, fruits or nuts. It is the added sugar that makes liqueurs distinct from eaux-de-vie and fruit brandy which contain no added sugar. Most liqueurs have an alcoholic volume ranging from 15% to 55%. Liqueurs are often drunk after a meal.

Some popular liqueurs include the popular raspberry liqueur Chambord, coffee liqueurs like Kahlúa, Patrón XO café, Sheridan's and Tia Maria, fruit liqueurs such as Amarula, Cointreau, and Grand Marnier, and anise flavour liqueurs such as Patxaran, Ricard and Sambuca.

Cream liqueurs made with dairy cream are also very popular. Popular cream liqueurs include Baileys Irish Cream, Advocaat and Dooley's.

A crème liqueur (not to be confused with cream liqueur) is a liqueur that includes no cream and has a lot more sugar added to it until it has a syrup-like consistency. "Crème" in refers to the consistency. Examples include crème de mûre (blackberry), crème de menthe (mint), crème de cacao (chocolate), and crème de cassis (black currant).
