Emilio Lustau SA was founded in 1896 by José Ruiz-Berdejo. In 1940, his son Emilio Lustau Ortega moved the winery to the old quarter of San Jaime, in the old town of Jerez de la Frontera. From 1950 to now, the company is exporting sherry. In the 70s the company continued to expand. First, building new ships with wineries in the family estate of Our Lady of Hope. Then, from the early '80s under the direction of Rafael Balao, it became one of the most innovative companies in Jerez. In 1990 the direction of Emilio Lustau SA switched to pass into the hands of the company known Luis Caballero SA, producer of liqueurs and spirits and the famous Ponche Caballero, best-selling liquor Spain. In June 2008 Lustau acquired four of the biggest brands in the history of sherry, La Ina, Botaina, Rio Viejo and Viña 25.
