Founded in 1792, Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana has been a family-run winery since the start and remains so to date. While the winery started out small, in the 19th century, it grew to become one of the most important producers of Manzanilla wine in the world. The winery is located in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, the only place in the world that can produce Manzanilla sherry.

The name "manzanilla" comes from the Spanish word for chamomile tea because the flavour of this unique sherry brings is reminiscent of that special flavour. The special layer of yeast that appears in the barrel while the 100% Palomino Fino wine is maturing happens naturally in this part of Spain. It is this yeast that protects the wine, keeping the oxygen from touching the surface. The interaction between the wine and the yeast give it the special characteristics that make La Gitana Manzanilla wine so special.

After 5-6 years spent ageing in American oak barrels in the traditional criadera and solera system, La Gitana Manzanilla is ready to be bottled. This award-winning wine should be served cold. Try a bottle for yourself and see just what makes La Gitana Manzanilla so unique.
