The Winery

Château du Tertre

Château du Tertre

In the south-western reaches of Margaux is Le Grand Poujeau, a large gravel plateau which peaks at just over 20m above sea level. The vines here belong to several well known Margaux chateaux, including Giscours and d'Angludet, but many of them are owned by Chateau du Tertre. Indeed, tertre refers to a hillock or knoll, and this is the origin of this estate's name.

Château du Tertre The 2013 is a good aromatic intensity, the assembly is flexible and melting. It ends on a toasted finish. A nice round structure.

Château du Tertre has a very long history, where many owners have succeeded. The property now belongs to Eric Albada Jelgersma, also owner of Château Giscours having invested heavily in this Castle, combining tradition and modernism.
The 52 hectares of the Château du Tertre lie on one of the most beautiful severe ridges on the Margaux terroir, but also higher. The vines of the vineyard is composed of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot 33%, 19% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
The wines are aged in barrels (45% new) for 15 to 17 months.
The ruby purple reflections on the Château du Tertre 2012 is admirable. On the palate, it offers notes of gooseberry and currant, decorated with a touch of liquorice on a rather woody. Its soft tannins and light acidity contribute to the balance of this wine.

Bright red and purple reflections. Main smell of caramel. I liked the acidity of 2015.
Perfect to pair it with a lamb leg.
My best friend from Margaux recommended it to me .
