4 /5

Great wines begin in the vineyard. Catena Zapata vision is to make rich and unforgettable wines that are true to the special place they come from. The story of Catena is the story of Argentine wine. Founded in 1902, Argentina's Bodega Catena Zapata is known for its pioneering role in resurrecting Malbec and in discovering extreme high altitude terroirs in the Andean foothills of Mendoza.

Catena Zapata Nicolas 2015

4 /5

This is the absolute top of Argentinian red. The wine is made from hand-picked cabernet sauvignon and malbec added a little Petit Verdot. The first Catena Zapata Nicolas Nicolas aged 24 months in French oak, then another 24 months in bottle in the cellar. Only then comes the wine on the market, but it's worth the wait! Nicolas Catena Zapata has an intense, deep red-purple kleur. In nose has Nicolas Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of black fruit - blackberries, black cherries, black plums - with subtle notes of vanilla and dark chocolate blended with savory hints of green olives and a stony minerality. In the mouth the wine is extremely complex and unfolds layer by layer a new flavor. This is a masterpiece and easily beats Bordeaux houses that are much more expensive and time again on blind tastings far behind the competition.
