2016 Château Haut Bailly (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc)

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: opaque purple.
  • Nose: blackcurrant, cassis and cherries, forest and snuff and graphite that touch so typical of Bordeaux.
  • Mouth: strong, elegant, complex, caressing, firm but sweet, rich, ethereal tannins.

APPELLATION: Pessac-Léognan.

VINEYARD: Vineyard of 31 hectares, gravelly soils with more land than is usual in the area, contribute to it can consume relatively soon, one of the most elegant and charming of Bordeaux wines.

GRAPES: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

AGEING: Aged in French oak barrels, 50% new.

The Château Haut Bailly is the ideal wine to pair it with wild boar sausages. It was served at a wedding.
It's red with a violet edge. Strong scents of coffee and toffee. It tasted a lot like wine.

Haut Bailly Pessac-Léognan 2016

The 2016 vintage was an extreme year, records and a few lucky breaks, two extreme situations. A torrential winter and spring cumulative total rainfall of the year (first record) last summer and fall dry and bright (2016 beat the record heat in 2014 and 2015 in the world)., from January at March, a mild winter and watered causes early bud burst
The rains continue throughout the spring, accompanied by low temperatures, summer, beautiful, warm and sunny, continues in September and October -. Two additional exceptional months, allowing us to wait for the perfect ripeness of each plot

Harvesting began on 26/09 and are held quietly and peacefully
The collection of Merlot spans ten mornings until 6/10
Then we wait until 11/10 for Petit Verdot, CF and CS
Either a fortnight of work spread over four weeks
Tailor-made for big and beautiful clusters at both wings., Merlot grains are nice sizes while those Cabernets are very small

The harvest is generous throughout
The grapes are beautiful.

Enthroned at the peak of Léognan Château Haut-Bailly dominates for over four centuries, a vineyard of 30 hectares in one piece. The reputation of this vineyard, established in the 19th century, up to the rank of the greatest wines of Bordeaux. It enjoys a particularly deep soil Graves in Pessac-Léognan.

Very old pre-phylloxera vines centenarians, existing even a quarter of the property, break down old Bordeaux varieties and play an important role in the production of this great wine. The latter is of great finesse and honors the ancestral style of the classic Bordeaux.

The 2011 vintage displays a style and exemplary balance. It features racy tannins of great refinement and give righteousness to wine left in a classic style. Note the perfect balance between fruit and bois.Boire or keep: 2020 - 2036

Red intense cherry colour and very high layer. It smells like violets. I kept feeling the taste for a long time.
