The region of Baden, Germany, is set along the right bank of the Rhine and Lake Constance, with Heidelberg to the north. This is a vineyard with a good exposure to the sun, something unusual in the country, although more than single vineyard, the plots form a wide mosaic separated by the Rhine and large forests.
The vineyards of Baden follow the eastern bank of the river north of Basel, ending where the hills meet the areas that suffer frosts in the plains of the Rhine, causing the vines to grow on the slopes facing the south.
Within Baden, the different strains cultivated include, within the whites, Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Sylvaner and Gutebel. Among the red varieties, however, Pinot Noir and Rulander are preferred.
