2018 Shaya (Verdejo)

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: clean and bright straw yellow, greenish reflections.
  • Nose: A delicately fruity and floral nose with hints of stone fruit and grapefruit.
  • Mouth: great structure and well balanced, mineral notes, memories of marzipan and spices with a refreshing acidity and a long finish with good minerality.

APPELLATION: Rueda.

VINEYARD: very sandy soils with lots of rocks eroded by rivers on the surface, which provides a high degree of complexity to this wine

GRAPES: Verdejo.

PREPARATION: vinification stainless steel tanks for 25 days with a maximum temperature of 15 °C. After the completed fermentation process remains in refrigerated storage until bottling. A small percentage (20-30%) was fermented in 500 to 600 liters.

- Tasting notes: It has a distinct character, not at all at odds with elegance and distinguished by aromas of exotic fruits, with typical vegetal notes of cut grass. A large and serious wine, with a considerable freshness and a long dry aftertaste, where the mineralized shown. Pale straw yellow with greenish reflections of his own youth. Clean and bright. Good entry mouth, wide, agile and fresh way, excellent acidity and a long finish and dry. He is a young, fresh, meaty and elegant white wine.

This project of the Gil family, accompanied here by Enrique Busto, begins in 2008 and places the winery and vineyards in the far southeast of the Denomination of Origin Rueda, in the province of Segovia
The technical management of the winery is run by the Australian winemaker Belinda Thomson.
The grapes for these wines come from vineyards of 30'5 hectares of Verdejo very old underperforming
The vines are planted in glass in sandy soils, which makes it possible that many of them are ungrafted.
The vines have a surface layer of river gravel small and a deeper layer composed of clay
Partially fermented wine in barrels and remains on the lees in full for several months before being bottled.
