2009 Château La Gaffelière (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot)

The Malet Roquefort family is present on the grounds of Château La Gaffelière four centuries, which makes it the oldest family of Saint-Emilion. Count Léo Malet Roquefort, the current owner, with the help of Stéphane Derenoncourt provides the best care in the vineyard and wine.

Château La Gaffelière

Château La Gaffelière seems emerging from History. Through the presence of its vines since the Gallo-Roman era, its name dragged from the leprous hospital or « gaffet » in the mediaeval epoch, and the owners grand genealogy ; the Malet Roquefort family, living for 4 centuries in Saint-Emilion, is...

Château la Gaffelière Saint Émilion Premier Grand Cru... 2009

Well we have the Bordeaux lovers some talk about vintage 2009 & 2010. Is think it is well known that this is one of the finest years in Bordeaux. Many sweet Christmas fruitcake notes intermixed with black cherries, black currants, licorice and incense jump from the glass of this dense purple-colored wine. Medium to full bodied with surprisingly soft, round tannins and a nice mid palate, the 2009 and 2010 are the reference of Chateau La Gaffeliere that of the elegant and lively style of the property. This beauty can be drunk early but comfortable stay in the cellar until 2050. Important to mention is that we have this wine to buy direct (may) at Chateau La Gaffeliere so the wine comes from the cellars conditioned directly to our warehouse (not parties that have wandered the world in questionable environments which unfortunately happens too often this type of wines).

Gaffelière Saint-Emilion 2009

I'll try again at the upcoming wine tasting.
Eye-catching cherry colour with a low layer. Aromas of dark chocolate. The taste was a bit salty, I was greatly surprised.
Would pair it with some kind of special meat.

Château la Gaffelière Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2009

Very blossomed nose, explosive and racy, with good complexity, significant mineral notes, leather, ripe red fruits; flattering mouth, tasty, fairly warm, with fruit, flesh and some final acidity that gives it a lot of freshness.

I like to surprise my family with this wine.
Has a strong colour. In my opinion, the most noticeable smell is raspberry. Fleshy, smoothy.
We had it with a deer stew.

I opened the bottle for my best friend.
It had a deep colour at first sight. Smells of wood. Softer than 2016.
I enjoyed it with a beef dish.

It wasn't well paired with food, but the wine was good and tasty. It was served at a wedding.
A Merlot with a nice colour. Smells like cedar wood or pine tree. Very light, pleasent.

It had a very shutdown colour. Nice smell of cherries. Astringent, rough taste.
It was perfect with food.
We drank a pair of bottles of Château la Gaffelière 2014 with my friend.
