Description of 2016 Château Branaire Ducru

2016 Château Branaire Ducru (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot)


  • Colour: light ruby red.
  • Nose: stone and Frischobstaroma.
  • Mouth: Medium black cherry and cranberry taste, nice balance. Medium long, clean finish.


VINEYARD: Château Branaire Ducru

VARIETIES (N): Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot

RIPE: ageing in oak barrels for a period of 16 to 20 months with 60-65% new oak barrels. Light roasting of the barrels to respect the fruity power of the wine.

PRODUCTION: Fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the size of which adapts to the specific characteristics of the different parcels of the vineyard. The wine is the result of a controlled fermentation at a temperature between 26 and 28ºC.

The 2016 weather conditions were particularly favorable at building a quality vintage. ,, Spring is well watered and fresh, but helps develop beautiful leaf surfaces, a good vegetative balance of the vines
However, it must be very attentive to mildew. ,, A beautiful dry and sunny beach at the end of the first decade of June is favorable at a beautiful flowering in the majority of our plots. ,, Summer, from 23/06 to 13/09, is extremely dry (5. 5mm rain in July, 14 in August 5mm) and very sunny
Water constraints are gradually very marked up in the vineyard, especially favorable at enriching windows in phenolic compounds (color and tannins) and then at a slow but complete refinement of the tannins and the aromatic structure of the wine. ,, A rainy period of 13 to 16 September (38mm) is very useful to perfect the final stages of maturation, especially for the youngest vines. ,

BRANAIRE CHÂTEAU DUCRU 2013 is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot 31%, 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc.
This 2013 vintage is elegant and seductive. I has a nice aromatic definition of fine fruit and accurate. The palate is balanced, on a pretty tasty flesh with delicate tannins. Good acidity and a nice freshness.

I drank this Château Branaire Ducru once with my coworkers.
A really tasteful wine of red ruby colour . Smells good, licorice and violet aromas. On the palate was quite thick.

When you smell it you can feel different aromas such as licorice, violet, .... Warm taste in the mouth.
This wine is rather watery for my taste.
