You will like to know that…

The Portuguese company Vinhos Borges was founded in 1884 by António and Francisco Borges. These two brothers set the foundation for what would continue to be, even centuries later, a company known for its excellent wines as well as its commitment to quality. In their portfolio of wines can be found the Gatão brand. The name originally came from the village of the same name, from where the grapes for the brand were sourced. Over time, due to the brand's increasing popularity, grapes began to be sourced from all over Portugal.

As a result, Gatão now has nothing to do with the village and simply means "big cat". This is further emphasized by the stylish cat on the beautiful minimalist bottle. To make Gatão Rosé , a collection of the traditional varieties of Portuguese grapes are harvested and brought to the distillery from all over Portugal. This young wine is matured for a minimum of two months before bottling. It is meant to be drunk young and chilled.

The perfect table wine, Gatão Rosé is a beautiful, transparent pink. It is slightly fizzy with a young, fruity smell. The delicate flavour of this medium-bodied wine is the perfect accompaniment for lighter dishes such as lean meat, pizza, pasta, and appetizers.

Description of Gatão Rosé

Gatão Rosé

  • View: Gatão Rosé is a fresh, bright, and warm pink colour with an almost orange tint.
  • Nose: A garden of fresh berries and rose petals on the nose.
  • Mouth: Young, fruity, and delicate without being perfumey. Semi-dry, it has notes of wild berries, and a pleasant underlying minerality which adds substance to the smoothness.

VINEYARD: Vinhos Borges, a respected vineyard founded in 1884, which produces a wide variety of wines, all of which express and honour the climate and terrain of Portugal's long wine-crafting traditions.

GRAPES: Not specified; likely a blend of typical Portugese varieties, such as Azal, Espadeiro, Loureiro, Pedernant, and Vinhão.

AGING: Six months in stainless steel tanks.

PREPARATION: The charming cat on the bottle's label is representative of the lively nature of Gatão Rosé , a youthful and springlike expression of the Vinho Verde region. Careful picking and attentive maceration lead to a clean, spirited wine.

PAIRING: Gatão Rosé complements tomato-based dishes and pizzas particularly well. You might enjoy it with a classic Spaghetti Bolognese with mushrooms, accompanied by garlic bread. Or, for vegetarians, try it alongside a Tomato, Herb, and Cream tart with a Crushed Oatmeal Crust as a case, with Spinach Salad on the side.
