Jack Daniel's is the first distillery to have been officially registered in the United States. Officially established in 1866, it did not take long for Jasper Newton Daniel, known as Jack, to release his charcoal-mellowed Tennessee whiskey to the market. Jack Daniel's original recipe, a mix of corn, rye, and barley, is still used today to craft his gold medal-winning range of Tennessee whiskeys.

Jack Daniel's Gold Medal 1954 is a commemorative edition of Jack Daniel's in honour of the sixth gold medal the brand received. This release is part of a seven-bottle Gold Medal series honouring the wins the company has enjoyed over the years. The best part of the 1954 win is the story behind it. When news came that Brussels, Belgium was holding a whiskey contest, Herb Fanning was put in charge of sending the company's entry across the Atlantic to take part in the competition. Instead of choosing some special whiskey for the competition, he went out to the production line and grabbed some bottles straight off the rack.

Herb Fanning thought that all Jack Daniel's was special enough to win an award and he was proved correct. The brand won a gold medal in 1954, the Star of Excellence, which is now proudly displayed on this spectacular special edition bottle of this classic American whiskey.

PRODUCER: Jack Daniels. Since 1996, Jack Daniels started creating special bottlings for their Jack Daniels Gold Medal series. The sixth edition was created to honour the 1954 Brussels Belgium Star of Excellence, which was awarded to them back in the days.Herb Fanning, the right hand of the owner Reagor Motlow, received a letter about a whisky judging contest in Brussels, Belgium, in 1954. He walked right out of the production line and pulled off the first three bottles of whisky and sent them to the competition. The advertising department of the company was furious, that he has not consulted them about maybe using a special whisky for the judging. To this Mr. Herb responded with "Why? All Jack Daniels is special!" When the letter came announcing that Jack Daniels had won the star of Excellence, Mr. Herb was offered to star in Jack Daniels ads by nobody other than the advertising department themselves.
