Description of The Macallan Ruby
The Macallan Ruby
TASTING NOTES:
- Colour: The Macallan Ruby gets its name from its amber-ruby colouring, which is highly unique when it comes to the world of whiskys.
- Aroma: The first noticeable aroma from this drink comes from the powerful oak spices. Secondary notes of dehydrated fruits, bitter nuts, and sweet caramel help to balance out this beverage's scent profile.
- Taste: The scent of this drink is only a small preview of the flavours to come. Subtle spice flavours of nutmeg, ginger, and cinnamon blend beautifully with the oak spices. Fruity raisin flavours add sweetness to the whisky as well. The glass ends with a long finish.
PRODUCER: The Macallan distillery was founded in Scotland by Alexander Reid in 1824. While the distillery prides itself in making Scotch, it strays somewhat from tradition, as their drinks are not only influenced by traditional Scottish recipes but also North American and Spanish whisky recipes. This is part of what makes their recipes so unique in comparison to other Scotch whiskys.
COUNTRY: Scotland
PRODUCTION DETAILS: The Macallan Ruby is a single malt whiskey. While Macallan doesn't go into much detail about how they distill their beverage, they are proud of their ageing method. Each batch is aged in ex-sherry oak casks. The drink remains in their original casks for several years before it is finally bottled.

The Producer
The Macallan Distillers
The Macallan emerged in 1824 when Alexander Reid, a local farmer, got one of the first licenses to distill whiskey and leased 8 acres (just over 3 has) from the Earl of Seafield in order to establish the The Macallan Distillery.
