You will like to know that…
Macallan has been a fixture in the world of Scottish whisky since it was founded back in 1824. The founder of the distillery, Alexander Reid, did not come from a long line of whisky producers. Rather, he was a barley farmer and school teacher. As barley is the backbone of Scotch whisky, this was probably no coincidence. The original name for the area was a combination of the Gallic word for fertile land, "magh", and "Ellan", a monk closely associated with the local church. Together, these words made Maghellan, which was later simplified to Macallan.
The Macallan Sienna is one of four Highland single malt Scotch whisky that forms part of the brand's 1824 Series. This series was planned as a celebration of the 100% natural colour that Macallan whiskies absorb from the wood in which they are aged. Of the range of colours offered in the 1824 series, The Macallan Sienna is proud to be the second-darkest of the collection. This copper-coloured whisky lives up to the name sienna with which it was christened.
The flavour of this fine Macallan whisky is really set off by the sherry casks in which it was aged. Vanilla and green apple open up the nose while the flavours of dried fruits and spices dance across the tongue. This smooth, rich whisky is perfect to enjoy on the rocks or with a splash of water to unleash the plethora of flavours within.

Elaboration of The Macallan Sienna
The Macallan Sienna
TASTING NOTES:
- Colour: The Macallan Sienna is mahogany in tone with glints of dark copper, and can justifiably claim the name Sienna for its hue.
- Aroma: Sweet and citrus on the nose, with notes of glazed doughnut and orange marmalade, leading into earthier, spicier hints of cinnamon and coffee grounds.
- Taste: Smooth and soft on the palate, opening with spring and summer flavours of satsuma, honeycomb, stewed fruits, and young wood, then into spicier gingerbread and malty notes, before a medium-length, subtly citrus and refreshing finish. A sophisticated wood and wine presence, with a perfect balance of sweet and spice.
PRODUCER: The Macallan uses unusually small and uniquely shaped copper stills, and has done so since it was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid. Located near the village of Craigellachie, the distillery looks out across the River Spey, the very spirit of its spirits.
COUNTRY: United Kingdom
PRODUCTION DETAILS: One of the expressions in the producer's no-age-statement 1824 Series, The Macallan Sienna is named not only for its apt colour, but because sienna is a colour found in nature; no additional colourings were used in its creation. Winner of the Liquid Gold Award in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2014, this Speyside single malt was aged in oak sherry casks from Jerez, Spain.

The Producer
The Macallan Distillers
The Macallan emerged in 1824 when Alexander Reid, a local farmer, got one of the first licenses to distill whiskey and leased 8 acres (just over 3 has) from the Earl of Seafield in order to establish the The Macallan Distillery.
